Airport Bus

Travellers departing from Korea can opt for airport buses at Incheon International Airport to reach Seoul and other regions of Korea. Visitors can buy tickets at the counters stationed at Exits 4 and 9 (inside Airport) and Exits 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 13 (outside Airport). At the Gimpo airport, buses to downtown Seoul are located by Exits 2 to 6 on the east wing of the first floor (domestic flights), and buses to Ilsan and Incheon are by Exits 9 and 10 of the west wing.

Airport Railroad Express (AREX)

Using the Airport Railroad Express (AREX) is the fastest and the cheapest way to get from the airport to central Seoul. The AREX operates two types of trains: the Express train, which makes no stops along the way, and the All-Stop train, which makes 10 stops before it arrives at Seoul Station. The Incheon International Airport Station is located by the airport's Traffic Centre.

Korea taxi service offers transportation car service to and from the airport in Korea, Incheon, Gimpo, Gimhae (Busan), Jeju airport, Seoul city. There are standard taxis, deluxe taxis, international taxis, and jumbo taxis (minivans). The average rate for a standard taxi from the Incheon Airport to Myeong-dong (city-centre area) is around 60,000won. Fares can be paid by cash, credit card or T-money card (transportation card). The Seoul Metropolitan Subway is a metropolitan railway system comprises of 21 rapid transit, light metro, commuter rail and people mover lines located in northwest South Korea. The subway systems are conveniently available at Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, and Gwangju with Seoul subway expanding all the way to Incheon, Gyeonggi-do and even parts of Gangwon-do and Chungcheongnam-do provinces. The fare starts at 1,350 won with additional fee added depending on distance travelled. Ticket vending machines are installed at stations. The fare will include a 500 won deposit which will be refunded when card is returned in the refund machine at the destination station. This prepaid transportation card can be used on buses, subways, and taxis in most parts of Korea (small countryside regions may not accept cards). They can be purchased at subway stations or any convenience stores with a T-money logo. Cards are 2,500 won and must be charged (minimum 1,000 won) before using.


This is a transportation card exclusively for foreign travellers. It can be used on buses, subways and the AREX (up to 20 times a day), and taxis in Seoul, Incheon and Jejudo Island. The M-Pass can be purchased at the Tourist Information Center inside the Incheon International Airport (Exits D and C, 1st floor). There are 1-day (10,000 won) through 7-day (59,500 won) passes.

City Buses

Local city buses are an affordable and convenient way to move around the city. There is an option to pay the fare in cash or use the transportation card upon boarding. In case of transportation card, it is necessary to tap card reader when getting off the bus to avail discounts.

Express & Intercity Buses

The widespread express and intercity bus network makes it easy for passengers to connect with other regions and towns in Korea. These buses are clean, convenient and punctual. Except for Seoul, express and intercity terminals are located very close by if not in the same building.

Passenger trains operated by KORAIL are fast, reliable and affordable. There are several lines including the super high-speed KTX (Korea Train Express), the ITX(Intercity Train Express), the regular Saemaeul and Mugunghwa, and the commuter Nuriro trains. Tickets can be purchased on-site, or online. Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) sells exclusive railroad passes for international tourists or foreign residents living in Korea. Korea boasts of a well-connected domestic flight network to major cities in the country. Tickets can be booked through travel agencies, phone or web.

Rental Car

Another convenient travel option in Korea is rental cars, particularly if you're traveling outside of Seoul. Major rental companies are conveniently located near airports, train stations or bus terminals. A valid International Driving Permit (IDP) or a driver's license issued by the Republic of Korea is required, and some places require both an IDP and a local driver's license issued by your country of residence. IDPs recognized in Korea are only those issued by a member state of the Geneva Convention of the Vienna Convention, so be sure to check if your IDP is valid for use in Korea.
